(From United Nations reports) Another earthquake has hit the already traumatized country of Nepal. On Wednesday afternoon, Nepal time, A 7.3 aftershock has killed at least 70 people and injured thousands. There has been over 140 aftershocks since the first 7.8 earthquake some two weeks ago. The aftershock was so powerful it was felt in India and killed over 17 people.

Although not well reported by mainstream media, there is a race against the clock for the aid workers and the people of Nepal as Monsoon season begins in June. During Monsoon season in Nepal it rains almost everyday. The fear the daily rains will slow the relief and rebuilding effort to a crawl.

On May 8th, The United Nations World Programme warned the “severe logistical challenges” are getting in the way of aid reaching hundreds of thousands of survivors in some of Nepal’s hardest hit areas.

Nepal Numbers are still immense

  • Deaths: Over 8,000
  • Injured: Over 100,000
  • Homeless: Millions
  • Recovery needs: 423 million (according to the United nations)
